Mesa Men Win Four Track Events at Foothill Conference Quad Meet

Thomas McDougald won a very competitive race in the men's 400 meters.

The Mesa College Men's Track & Field team had four winners on the track at the Foothill Conference quad meet at Antelope Valley College. Cuyamaca College and Victor Valley College also competed on an excellent day with cool, sunny conditions. Thomas McDougald got things started with a win in the 400 meters with a time of 50.35. Soon afterwards, Jesse O'Brien (1:57.48) and Dave Edwards (1:58.62) rolled to a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters. Elgin Thomas continued Mesa's winning ways on the track with a victory in the 200 meters. Thomas won a closely contested race in 22.46 seconds. Next up on the track was the 3000 meters and Mesa again prevailed with Daniel Gonia running away to an easy win in 9:03.00. This week the Mesa Track & Field team will trevel to the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton.

Season Opener

Mesa's men's and women's track and field team have their season opener at the Foothill Conference Preview at Antelope Valley College Saturday February 9th, 2007. Mesa went head to head with conference rivals Antelope Valley, Chaffey, Cuyamaca, Southwestern, and Rio Hondo.

Sophomore Morgan Bogard crushed the school record the previous week at the Long Beach All-Comers meet Saturday February 3rd with a hefty throw of 166'8"in the women's hammer competition. She follows up this week by winning all three throwing events with a 162' 4' toss in the hammer, 138' 10" in the discus, and 39' 2" in the shot put. Morgan was the only athlete at the meet to win all three of the events she contested.

Other highlights were the second place finish by sophomore Thomas McDougald in the men's 200 meter dash with a time of 22.82. Freshman ElginThomas placed 5th in the event finished 5th with a time of 23.51. Blaze Eisner II, ran a personal best in the men's 800 meter run with a 5th place finish and a time of 2:12.35.

McDougald, Thomas, Eisner, and O'Brien ran the men's 4x400 meter relay for a 5th place finish and a time of 3:37.16. Erika Julien had a great opening meet with at 4th place finish in the long jump with at mark of 12' 9", a 6th place shot put finish with a throw of 22' 4", and a 200m dash time of 29.4 and 7th place.

The Olympians will be at the Cerritos Invitational this coming weekend Friday and Saturday February 23 and 24th where they will compete against the best community colleges from both Northern and Southern California.
