Healthy Campus 2008 presents a day for Alcohol and Drug Awareness: The DEATH EXPERIENCE. The Associated Student Government and Student Health Services have partnered to bring you a realistic experience of what happens when people drive drunk or drugged. The event is in front of the cafeteria from 9 am to 2 pm on October 29th. Students Staff and Faculty can sign up (before hand at x 2545/2774, L-504 or on that day) to participate as a "drunk driver".
Drunk driver participants will first put on goggles that make you feel like you are drunk. Next you will meet with SDPD and SDCCD Campus police to take a sobriety test and then feel what it is like to get arrested. After your handcuffs are on, they will put you in a police car. Following this, you will experience the death that drunk/drugged driving causes by viewing a crashed car. You will then attend a funeral for someone, like you, who died as a result of drunk/drugged driving.
Next, we will offer you the opportunity to wear the "drunk goggles" while you drive a motorized cart through an obstacle course. We then will treat you to free pizza and a movie (that clearly depicts photos of fatal traffic accidents).
There will be a presentation at 1 pm in room H 117 by a former Mesa College student who had a brother die in a fatal alcohol related accident.
The San Diego Fire Department will arrive at 12 noon to extricate an actor from the crashed car and attempt to revive her. They will need to use the jaws of life.
